Why Not aims to answer a common question when working with PDB derived databanks: Why is there no entry for ...?

To accomplish this we've looked at dependencies between PDB derived databanks (entry X can only exist if entry Y is present, or if condition Z is met) and compiled these into a databank hierarchy.

By indexing all entries for each databank, and comparing these with entries found higher up the hierarchy, we can find out which entries are missing. These lists can then be used to try to recreate any of the missing databank entries.

Should for any reason the creation of an entry fail, then the respective databank maintainer is given the option to either manually or automatically annotate the reason why a given entry could not be created.

Why Not offers a way to conveniently access this information for all databanks.
