General information

On behalf of the organizing committee for the KNCV BioInformatics symposium named "Netherlands Conference on BioInformatics 2004", which will take place on Thursday 7 - Friday 8 October 2004 in Groningen, we invite you to read the information overview and the program of the symposium "Images of Life".

This year is the 5th anniversary of the symposium organized by the Workgroup BioInformatics of the Dutch Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (NVBMB), section of the KNCV. We organize a 2 day meeting in the nice university city of Groningen (north in NL with good air / rail / road connections and a variety of hotels / restaurants / bars) including invited speakers, contributed talks, and the very successful poster sessions with poster flashes (1 overhead sheet in 1 minute poster announcements).

Plenary lectures on different TOPICS:
  • Genome Annotation / Networks and Modeling
  • Visualization and Animation
  • Text Analysis / Data Mining
  • Expression Data / Statistics
On Friday 8 Oct. we have a SPECIAL:
  • 3D Visualization CAVE demonstrations
The Workgroup BioInformatics via its initiatives in organizing the annual symposiums wishes to open opportunities in our country in sharing our experience and open new collaborations with experts in this field from all over Europe and America. Our aim is to create a network of Netherlands and worldwide scientists and technicians working in bioinformatics in fields of Medicine, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and other related fields.

The bioinformatics community in NL is growing, which reflects the attendance of this symposium from 75 people in 1999 to 200+ people in 2003. Considering the annual symposium is visited by a growing number of experts, this year we expect around 250 people to attend.

Information on the Workgroup BioInformatics of the KNCV

The goal of the Workgroup BioInformatics, which is linked to both the KNCV (http://www.kncv.nl) and the NVBMB (http://www.kncv.nl/nvbmb), is to stimulate the bioinformatics research and education in The Netherlands. The workgroup wishes to achieve this by means to:
  • Focus on national strength within the field of bioinformatics
  • Set up information programs regarding bioinformatics
  • Offer a discussion platform for all information relevant and for all people interested in the field of bioinformatics
  • Organize meetings and symposiums
  • Improve networks between universities, technical schools, research institutes, and industry
  • Improve contacts with international bioinformatics organizations
The annual symposium is the perfect means to achieve this goal.

The target group of the KNCV workgroup BioInformatics is larger than chemists and molecular biologists only: also medics, fysicists, informaticians and mathematicians, working in this field, are welcome.

Registration

For a member of the Workgroup Bioinformatics of the NVBMB, the registration for the symposium is € 20 to be paid on account 8474033 (tnv J.P.H. Nap 6708 DV Wageningen, ovv 'Bioinformatica Groningen'), until Friday 1 October 2004. Registration after 1 October to be paid cash on location 7 October 2004.

For others NOT member of the Workgroup Bioinformatics, the registration for the symposium is € 20 to be paid on account 8474033 (tnv J.P.H.
